The Blank Page and the Empty Frame

The Blank Page and the Empty Frame

I taught my film class a little about genres yesterday. Genres are really helpful for the creative process because the create a space into which you can fill in the colors or rearrange the elements.

Creativity is much easier when you have limitations. Shelley and I are working on a creativity podcast and we have one interview in the can. The writer we talked to always equates creativity to problem-solving and when you have limitations it’s much easier to identify the problem you have to solve.

If you have infinite choice, choice is impossible. A huge blank canvass is intimidating. Start small. Paint a corner. Solve little problems.

If you got something out of this, please share with your friends!
